Visit Fallon is a tourism organization for the relatively small town of Fallon, NV. So how did a picture posted to Facebook by Visit Fallon—which originally had 650 likes—reach more than 20,000 people?
By connecting to their emotions, and more specifically, their sense of nostalgia. That picture, by the way, was of a giant sign for Bob’s Root Beer, a restaurant that has been closed for years. It must have lived on in people’s hearts, however, because the simple picture of that sign with the caption “Who misses this place?” was seen by more than 20,000 people and elicited nearly 1,500 likes, close to 200 comments and nearly 130 shares.
Engaging people by making people smile, encouraging them to reminisce and evoking positive emotions are goals that many marketers shoot for—and they might also be the key to creating a big impact with your next Facebook post.
